Torch operation.

Today, industrial high-temperature heat is mainly provided by combustion, which generates significant CO₂ emissions. Plasma technology offers a promising electric alternative to decarbonize these processes.

Unlike DC plasma torches, which require external magnetic fields to stabilize the arc between anode and cathode, Plenesys’ patented three-phase AC torch uses three electrodes—each connected to a phase—that alternately act as anode and cathode. This creates a self-stabilized arc without external fields, operating directly at grid frequency. At 50 Hz, this means 300 arc discharges per second evenly distributed across the electrode pairs.

Robust and designed for harsh environments, our torch operates under pressure and with dusty or hot feedstock, ensuring reliable performance in industrial settings.

Technical features.

Everything you need to know about our three-phase torches:

Continuous operation.

Our system is designed for continuous operation, with a high level of automation ensuring process reliability and stability.

Consumed electrodes are automatically replaced without interrupting plasma generation, thanks to a built-in electrode feeding system. Precise arc regulation is maintained throughout operation, minimizing downtime and ensuring stable performance. The solution is optimized to reduce OPEX, with rapid start-up and limited maintenance requirememts.

High efficiency.

Our plasma torches achieve thermal efficiencies above 90%, delivering high performance for industrial applications. This level of efficiency is enabled by the use of graphite electrodes without direct water cooling, minimizing thermal losses and improving energy transfer to the process.

Scalability and modularity.

Plenesys’ AC plasma torch features a modular, scalable design. Its simplified electrical architecture, operating directly on AC power without an AC/DC rectifier, enables a significant reduction in both CAPEX and OPEX.

The torch is available across a wide power range, from 30 kW to 2MW, and is compatible with multiple process gases, allowing adaptation to each project phase.

Flexible operation.

The plasma torch supports operation with a wide variety of gases, including streams containing solid particles. It operates across a broad pressure range and can be mounted at different orientations, offering high flexibility for integration into diverse industrial environments.

Highly autonomous, intelligent torches.

Our plasma technology incorporates advanced automation features, such as automatic start-up, hands-free operation, target power control, and automatic adaptation to new operating conditions. An ergonomic human-machine interface (HMI) and intelligent electrode tip recognition software further enhance operational safety, reliability, and ease of use.
